The backpack is packed. The pencils are sharpened. And just like that, summer folds itself into memory, making room for a new chapter: back to school.

For many parents—myself included—this season is a bittersweet symphony. There’s pride in watching our children step forward, a quiet ache as we let go a little more, and a tender hope that this year will be kind to them. That they’ll find friends who laugh with them, teachers who see them, and moments that shape them in beautiful ways.

I’ve always felt that the first day of school carries a kind of magic. It’s not just about new shoes or fresh notebooks—it’s about possibility. The possibility of growth, of resilience, of discovering who they are becoming.

But let’s be honest: it’s also emotional. There’s the lump in your throat when you wave goodbye at the bus stop. The silence in the house that feels too loud. The wondering—are they nervous? Are they excited? Are they okay?

And yet, in that quiet space, there’s room for us too. Room to reflect, to reset, to remember that parenting is a series of small releases. We hold them close, then let them go. Again, and again.

So, here’s to the parents wiping away tears behind sunglasses. To the kids clutching lunchboxes and dreams. To the teachers who greet each child like they matter—because they do.

Here’s to the hope that this school year brings more than just grades and homework. May it bring confidence, kindness, and the kind of learning that sticks to the soul.

And if you’re feeling all the feelings right now—you’re not alone. I’m right there with you, heart full and hands open, cheering for every brave step forward.
