What Does Self Care Look Like?

I talk a lot about self-care in my group. Sharing ideas is a huge part of what I love to do.
I have lots of ideas, and intentions to make those things happen, I so want to get a message, a spa day would be just lovely. Getting a mani-pedi, seems like such a beautiful way to take care of myself.
l dream of a lovely spa, that is somewhere lovely far from the sounds of cars and the hustle and bustle. Surrounded by beautiful trees. The spa is clean and warm and inviting.
There are comfy white robes, first, there is a shampoo with a nice head massage, just to set the mood and get relaxed. Next is the full back massage to work out the kinks and loosen the tight muscles. All the while soft music is playing. I feel all the stress just wash away, leaving me feeling relaxed and happy.
I wish this were not just a dream. How I would love to just go off to a mountain resort somewhere and escape all the stressors of life, for just a brief time. Just long enough to feel like taking on the world and all its troubles wouldn't feel so overwhelming.
I guess, for now, I will settle for a nice Epsom salt bath with a bit of Lavender essential oil. As much as I would love to escape for a bit, that just isn't a possibility right now.
The good news is, you really don't have to travel to a resort to get in self-care. Journaling is a good self-care practice. Getting all those thoughts out of your head so you don't take them to bed at night and let them keep you awake, is a great way to take care of yourself.
Another great thing to do is go to a quiet area of your house, close your eyes and begin deep breathing. Breathe in through your nose counting to 6, hold for a count of 6, then breathe out for a count of 6. With your eyes closed begin to think about a place where you were completely happy. Listen for sounds that are soothing, the sound of a bubbling brook, or perhaps the sound of water washing up on the shore, the sound of the breeze through the trees, or the feeling of warm sun on your face. Breathe in and smell the familiar comforting smell. Breathe in slowly, breathe back out and let the tension leave your body.
Diffusing essential oils can also relax you and can be a form of self-care. Lavender, Bergamot, and marjoram are really nice calming oils. Citrus oils are lovely and can give a sense of well-being.
What are some ways you could start a self-care practice in your home? Whatever you decide to do, the most important thing you can do is start.
